Johannesburg, South Africa – October 30, 2025 – During the Plenary Assembly Standing Committee Sessions, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Parliamentary Forum (SADC-PF) has announced the addition of new Honourable Members from Mauritius, South Africa, Angola, and Namibia. These representatives, designated by their respective national Parliaments, including proxies attending on behalf of substantive members, will strengthen the Forum’s regional collaboration efforts.
The new members are set to be officially sworn in during the 58th Plenary Assembly, scheduled to convene in Durban, South Africa, from November 25 to December 5, 2025. This gathering will bring together parliamentarians from across the SADC region to deliberate on key legislative and developmental priorities.
The ongoing meeting for Joint Standing Committees is taking place in Johannesburg, South Africa, under the theme: Enhancing the Role of Parliamentarians in Advocating for the Signing, Ratification, Accession, Domestication, and Implementation of SADC Protocols. This theme underscores the Forum’s commitment to fostering deeper integration through effective parliamentary engagement.
In her opening remarks, the Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of South Africa, Hon. Thoko Didiza, emphasized the vital importance of regional solidarity. She highlighted the pivotal role of parliaments in tackling pressing challenges such as climate change, gender equality, food security, and the advocacy for signing and implementing SADC protocols. These efforts align closely with the Forum’s strategic priorities, promoting sustainable development across the region.
Hon. Didiza stressed the urgency of proactive policymaking in the face of global challenges, including debilitating issues like climate change and economic inequality. She urged parliamentarians to serve as ethical guides, particularly in navigating the complexities of emerging technologies. “In an era of rapid change, our parliaments must lead with integrity and foresight,” she stated, calling for unified action to build resilience and equity in Southern Africa.
