The Southern Africa Youth Forum (SAYoF) has appointed Diana Paul Chando as the new Head of the Governance, Peace, and Security Cluster, a significant move aimed at enhancing youth involvement in regional governance, peace, and security matters. Chando, a Tanzanian national, brings a wealth of experience in international relations, policy analysis, and advocacy.
Diana’s impressive credentials include her role as the African Union Youth Ambassador for Peace, where she represented East African Community (EAC) interests. She has also been recognized as one of the Most Influential People of African Descent by MIPAD, showcasing her influence and dedication to African affairs.
A trained lawyer, Chando has amassed extensive experience in advocacy policy-making and international development. Her professional journey includes crucial stints at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva, as well as in elections observation and conflict management with the Accord Organisation in South Africa. These experiences have equipped her with a profound understanding of the complexities surrounding governance and security issues in Africa.
In addition to her role at SAYoF, Diana was honored as a Mwalimu Nyerere Young Scholar by the University of Makerere in Uganda, under the patronage of President Yoweri Museveni. Her research-centric advocacy focuses on the political climate’s effects on security in Africa, communication, and diplomacy.
Moreover, Chando has been recognized for her contributions to gender equality and empowerment, being awarded by the American Chamber of Commerce Tanzania as “A Woman in Chartered Territory.” Her keynote speech during the commemoration of 100 years of the late Mwalimu Julius Nyerere highlighted her commitment to preserving the legacies of Africa’s leaders.
Diana has collaborated with various organizations promoting the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and advancing Agenda 2063 across more than 20 African nations. Currently serving in Tanzania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she is poised to make impactful strides in her new role at SAYoF, fostering peace and security for the continent’s youth.
With her appointment, Diana Paul Chando stands at the forefront of youth empowerment in governance and security, underscoring the indispensable role young leaders play in shaping a stable and secure Africa.
